Now that our second year of homeschooling is underway, I am starting to see what subjects I look forward to teaching and the ones that I dread. Let's just say that the ones I love, outweigh the ones I dread. This is a good thing, right?
I was always an overachiever in school and pretty much loved everything but math. So yes, you guessed it. I do not like teaching math. Maybe that can change though, right?
What is the subject I enjoy teaching the most? It has to be history. I have always loved history. Right now we are doing state history and I think I am having more fun than my girls, haha. Not only do we do our learning through books, DVDs, etc., we take field trips through the state to get hands on and visual experience. We are actually planning our next trip in a couple of weeks. Can you see why I love history so much? Well, traveling is a definite plus, but learning the ins and outs of the state and how it was formed is very intriguing. The girls are always asking questions and eager to learn.
Right now we are working on a Michigan map project. I drew an outline of Michigan and the lakes on a Styrofoam board. They are going to fill it in with pictures from magazines. When it is finished, we will be posting a picture of it on Pure Michigan's Facebook wall. The girls are pretty excited about that.
What is your favorite subject to teach? What do you do to mix it up to make it exciting and fun? I look forward to reading your ideas.

History is my clear favorite as well!
ReplyDeleteWanted to let you know I nominated you for a Liebster Award: http://kympossibleblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-liebster-award.html
I love history, too! And doing STATE history of just our state would be so great!! Hmmm ... food for thought!
ReplyDeleteThe styrofoam Michigan idea sounds very neat! History is a lot of fun. We use Classical Conversations for History, and learning the timeline has been just as much fun for me as for my children. Current favorite to teach is math, though!

ReplyDeleteWe haven't covered state history yet, but I love the idea of taking field trips around the state to learn.
