  • As a Christian and as a patriot, David Bowman glorifies his Savior and his nation through his fine art, his books, and his motivational speaking.

David also writes and illustrates a variety of books for young audiences. Combining his cartooning skills and his experience teaching at a high school level, David knows how to engage kids, pre-teens, and teens with books that are both entertaining and enlightening. His best-selling Who's Your Hero series helps kids want to become modern day examples of heroes from the scriptures. The Great Plan of Happiness teaches them of God's plan for their lives and Dude, Don't be a Lemuel helps older kids and teens avoid negative, faith-destroying attitudes.

In the political realm,David's latest work is quickly becoming THE Constitutional/conservative book for your Americans.

In What Would the Founding Fathers Think? A YOUNG American's Guide to Understanding What Makes Our Nation Great & How we've Strayed, David uses wit, humor, and a variety of visuals to skillfully teach preteens and teens alike the wisdom of returning to our nation's founding principles, and in a way that they will actually "get it".

Even adults will enjoy the simplicity of its explanations. As Barbara Stowell, Vice President of Constitution Week USA, puts it: "I've learned more from this book than all the other government and constitutional course material I've studied."

And David loves to teach! He speaks to youth groups on religious and political topics all over the country. His fun, engaging style, on a variety of topics, helps motivate them to be all-around better Christians and patriots. Your kids won't soon forget a David Bowman presentation!

    Homeschooling and Snow Days

Well, our good ole' state of Michigan was hit with some sort of ice storm/wintry mix last night which led schools all over Michigan to close their doors this morning.  Hmmm, I have been told it isn't even that bad out there and that maybe the local forecasters scared many with this approaching storm.  I can't speak for west and north of our state, but looking out the window, it's turning to slush and the temps are rising.

Did we have a snow day in our homeschool?  Nope!  Haha!  We have plenty of days to play in the snow when it is present, but since we do "homeschool" I don't think it necessary to take a day off.  I'm all about getting ahead.  This mom has always been an over achiever, my poor kids. LOL No, this is good and I am so blessed to be able to home educate my children.

Don't get me wrong, we do have our own snow days, but I also incorporate learning into it.  I had a very wise fellow homeschooling mom (of 6), tell me that every day should be a learning experience and should be celebrated.  I love that!  It's so true and should be.  As a second year homeschooling family, I love learning new things from seasoned homeschooling moms.  It helps me so much.

What does your homeschool do with snow days?  Do you have them?  Have a blessed rest of the week.

    Good Ole' Michigan History

I am sitting here trying to get my hands warm and we have the heat on, what does that tell you?  Haha!  I am not a winter person at all and prefer the hot summer heat.  It must be a little Hispanic blood in me thanks to my grandmother who is now dancing in heaven with our Savior.

The past couple of weeks we have been learning about our wonderful state of Michigan.  I'm talking about rich Michigan History.  Since we have been taking many trips up state, the girls really get to see the beauty outside of the city.  Our biggest goal is to travel the UP as there is so much up there that I would love for them to learn.

I have been checking out DVD's at the library: Michigan's Great Lakes!  They come in a series breaking down the great lakes with added history.  They love it as they recognize some of the places we have been.  I have been able to find a variety of Michigan books from preschool on up.  Learning about our state seal, flag, bird, and flower is the basics we covered on our first week.

Kelly and Lyssa are currently working on a Michigan scrapbook.  We hope to include all of the places with pictures and information.  I think this is a fun way to learn about our state.  Another project they are working on is putting together a giant map of Michigan out of magazine pictures, etc.  I have a giant Styrofoam board they are using to get this done.  When it's finished I will post pics!  We are going to post a pic of our project on Pure Michigan's Facebook page.  The girls are pretty excited about that.

I am still brainstorming other fun ideas to incorporate into our state learning.  What are some fun ideas you have done with your homeschool?  I am open to new and unique ideas.

    Many blessings!

    Dedicated to Homeschooling

Well, I can't believe that our second year of homeschooling is half over.  It has most definitely been a roller-coaster adventure for all of us.  I am finally in a place where I feel at peace and our homeschool is a joyful homeschool.  Do we have our days?  Oh yes, for sure.  But I am not as stressed out as I was.

    Cookie's Kids

I will be honest, as a former teacher in a brick and mortar setting, I thought homeschooling my girls would be a cinch.  Boy, was I wrong.  I had to learn a lot about myself too.  The being too organized and "lesson plan happy" was making my girls and myself miserable.  I had to learn to take the "rigid" out and put the "flexible" in.  Yes, it's good to have routines, but I was almost a drill sergeant to my poor girls, yikes!  The Lord led me to wonderful homeschooling ladies to encourage and keep me on track.

After this devastating Connecticut tragedy in Newport, so many things were put into perspective for me.  All the heartaches and struggles that I dealt with suddenly disappeared.  All of that didn't matter anymore.  Those poor families.  I had to realize I am blessed to hold my babies and not take things so hard all the time.  I am not going to ruin my kids.

I am now and forever will be, dedicated to my homeschool.  I desire to raise my children up in the way they should go.  God is faithful, even through the frustrating times when I am ready to throw in the towel.  How about you?  What struggles have you faced in your homeschooling adventures?  I would love to hear from you.

P.S. The picture above was for a campaign I did just recently for Cookie's Kids clothing!  They are just so precious to me.  Those faces just melt my heart.

    Many Blessings!

    Homeschool, Pajama Style!

Picnic Lunch Homeschool Style: In our Pajamas watching a movie!

Wow, I can't believe it is January 7, 2013, already!  The new year is already going by so quickly.  Our week ahead is going to be a very busy one ranging from homeschooling and the return of extra-curricular activities, to doctor appointments and family events.  Sooooo, because of that, I decided today would be a pajama day with relaxed learning since it's our calmest day of the week.  So far so good.

Here is our learning for the morning:
    • Spelling
    • Writing
    • Math
    • State History ( Notebooking, field trips, etc.)
    • Reading
Lately, we have been taking turns doing Bible devotions.  It's working out very well.  Along with that they are learning about the book of Job and everything he went through.  They are just amazed and I am thrilled they want to find out how it ends for him.  They are also learning ABC Bible verses.  We are on V.  When they can recite all 26 verses at church, I will present them with a trophy that has pink jewels on it.  I can't wait to see their faces when the time comes.  Will certainly post pics on that one.

Kelly and Lyssa, will be wrapping up their Homeschool Connections classes: American Girl History, IE Writing, Spanish, and P.E. Next week is the last week for the semester.  After that, they will be starting  American Girl Part 2, History through Sculpture, Kids Chemistry, and Geography through Culture for the new semester, yay.

I received my first shipment of curriculums for the Schoolhouse Review Crew.  Can't wait to get started on those.  Those will  be disclosed in the final review in February.  Stay tuned for that.

Are you making any changes to your homeschool for the new year?  What are some goals?  Have a blessed week everyone.

    Onboard With the Crew!

Happy New Year! Well, this homeschooling mommy is super excited.  My first round of selections from homeschooling vendors were recently accepted.  I am on both lists for that which I signed up for.  I will be doing a science curriculum for 4th-6th graders with Kelly and a preschool program for my little preschooler.  I have yet to keep my eyes open on another vendor that will work for Lyssa, my first grader.

I am up for this exciting challenge as it's a way to try out a variety of curriculums with my girls for free while reviewing how they work with my family.  It's going to take a lot of dedication, but I love this kind of stuff.  I guess you could call me a homeschooling mommy blogger nerd, haha!

I pray that as we proceed in 2013, that God gives us all strength and peace.  2012 was rough on a lot of people.  Lord, draw us closer to you in these days ahead.  Jeremiah 29:11, I know the thoughts I have towards you, thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you a future and a hope.
